HOW TO BUILD A STRONG "HOUSE"

Updated: Jul 25, 2019

How do we become the best versions of ourselves and continue to build ourselves up? Every situation is going to be different for each one of us. You may have just came off of the best race season of your life, you may be training for your first ever race, or somewhere in between. Let’s chat about building endurance, building performance and building health.

Building a house is done - for simplification - 'one brick at a time' (No pun intended for you triathletes).

So how do we build ourselves up? One brick at a time. That means consistency in combination with frequency, if you do these two things, you'll go places! Those two acts outperform every time. Like true fitness, health and lasting performance. You cannot take short cuts. They simply don't exist. It's about showing up, day-in and day-out, even when life happens and things get tough, and it’s the last thing you want to do. Remember, it’s about showing up.

Yes, there are recovery days, easy days, and true off days...but you need to show up to do those too.

A good rule of thumb is you should never miss twice. When you do, you start tearing down

some of the bricks you have laid for the foundation of your “house” you've worked so hard to build.

So how do you build A big house?

Start stacking many bricks. Even the small ones add up over time. If you go too long or push too hard most of the time it’s like you'll be taking a bulldozer right to the house you've built. It’s about balance and building lasting health.

Be patient, give it time. Be consistent in laying bricks. This goes for the training you do, the way you fuel your body and the “shop” work you do to keep the body strong and injury free. It's all about laying bricks. By doing so you'll make 2018 an amazing year.
